Feeding Your Dog on a Schedule

What you feed your dog is important. The food he gets is important for both his health and well being. Did you know your dog? Like people do dogs need to eat regularly thought the day? Healthy meals and snacks you feed him should be monitored as part of his diet. It’s a good idea to space out the feedings and treat times. Depending on how old your dog is or his health he should get food that fits his nutritional needs. If you have an adult dog he may only need to be fed once a day but two times a day is recommended. Even though the dietary needs may change as they get older the feeding schedule shouldn’t be much different than that of an adult dog.

Puppies need to eat more throughout the day, but newborn puppies should nurse on demand. As you switch the dogs diet from milk to dog food you will want to offer him food up to five times a day. Once the puppy is fully weaned you can switch to feeding him three times a day. You should feed your dog at the same time every day, the time is up to you but a feeding schedule should be chosen. Try not to vary the times too much. If you feed your dog at a certain time every day than he should be fed at that time every day. Don’t be surprised if he starts to get anxious close to his feeding time , he’s Hungry.

And the treats you give him will also be come a part of his daily routine. If your dog knows that you feed him a treat every day before you eat dinner than he will be expecting it. Having a schedule for your dog’s diet is an important habit to get into, and it’s easy. The schedule will also help to potty train the dog because he may get used to going out at a certain time after eating. This is also good when traveling because you can estimate when he may need to go and schedule times. When you think about your dog’s diet you probably think about what he eats. But the time you feed him is just as important. The dog will expect to be fed at that time every day.
