Feeding Your Dog on a Schedule

What you feed your dog is important. The food he gets is important for both his health and well being. Did you know your dog? Like people do dogs need to eat regularly thought the day? Healthy meals and snacks you feed him should be monitored as part of his diet. It’s a good idea to space out the feedings and treat times. Depending on how old your dog is or his health he should get food that fits his nutritional needs. If you have an adult dog he may only need to be fed once a day but two times a day is recommended. Even though the dietary needs may change as they get older the feeding schedule shouldn’t be much different than that of an adult dog.

Puppies need to eat more throughout the day, but newborn puppies should nurse on demand. As you switch the dogs diet from milk to dog food you will want to offer him food up to five times a day. Once the puppy is fully weaned you can switch to feeding him three times a day. You should feed your dog at the same time every day, the time is up to you but a feeding schedule should be chosen. Try not to vary the times too much. If you feed your dog at a certain time every day than he should be fed at that time every day. Don’t be surprised if he starts to get anxious close to his feeding time , he’s Hungry.

And the treats you give him will also be come a part of his daily routine. If your dog knows that you feed him a treat every day before you eat dinner than he will be expecting it. Having a schedule for your dog’s diet is an important habit to get into, and it’s easy. The schedule will also help to potty train the dog because he may get used to going out at a certain time after eating. This is also good when traveling because you can estimate when he may need to go and schedule times. When you think about your dog’s diet you probably think about what he eats. But the time you feed him is just as important. The dog will expect to be fed at that time every day.

Taking Care of a Newborn Puppy

Taking care of a newborn puppy can be quite an exciting experence. Just seeing a new life coming into the world is a miracle. Watch the birth but be ready to help the mom if she needs help. There are several things you will need when birth begins. Be sure to have the items ready before the birth starts so you don’t have to leave the mom. The items you will need include lots of towels, a pair of scissors, a heating lamp, a piece of paper and a pencil, beta dine, alcohol, dental floss, and a lot of patience until the big moment.

Let the first pup nurse right away after it is born. This will help stimulate contractions for the birth of the next pup. Put the new puppy under the heat lamp to keep it warm. After each puppy is born, you can put all the puppies back by the mother until more contractions start. If a puppy seems lifeless after it’s born, rub it down with a towel to help it take its first breath. Or some people even try placing the puppy in warm and cold water altering between the two to get the puppy to breathe. You could also try giving the puppy CPR by placing the puppy on his back and blowing air into his mouth. Then apply a little pressure to the chest, but be careful, the puppy is delicate. DONT GIVE UP! Some puppies have been revived thirty minutes after they were born.

Encourage the puppies to start nursing right away. In order to survive they will need the colostrums that are in the mother’s milk. This is a nourishing fluid that contains antibodies and special vitamins that help to protect the newborn puppy from getting sick. Make sure all of the puppies have a chance to nurse. The bigger puppies may shove the smaller ones out of the way. Look for any problems after the puppy is born.Things like a cleft palate or short limb are easy to notice. Sometimes there can be an internal problem like organs that aren’t developed all the way. You should call the vet right away if you notice anything.

Giving a Puppy Medicine

Puppies need to be watched at all times. The environment he’s in, the food he eats, and social factors affect him in many different ways. And another important factor is that he could become ill, with an ilness that befalls puppies. When you decide to identify a problem, make sure you contact your vet because they will know what to do.

Dogs cant talk and tell you hoe they fell so you need to look out for symptoms like diarrhea, coughing, sneezing, vomiting, lethargy, loss of or no appetite, pain, and a fever. And you should contact your vet to look at the dog. Make sure they have all their vaccinations and they are up to date. And keep him away from other dogs because they might be sick and the owners are unaware of it. After you visit the vet and decide on a plan to treat it the vet may prescribe some medicine to help the animal feel better. There is more than one way to get a dog to take medicine whether it’s a tablet or liquid. Some dogs might try to spit out the medicine. You could keep trying and if that still doesn’t work you could call the vet to for another solution.

If it’s a liquid medicine, sometimes dogs will lick it off the spoon or out of an eye dropper, or you could mix it up in their food. If the dog won’t cooperate you could pull aide of his mouth up and shoot the medicine to the back of the mouth and that will help get them to swallow it. The same goes for giving the dog tablets. A lot of people hide the tablet in a piece of the dog’s food. Some dogs will even eat it right out of your hand. If the dog won’t take it place it as far back on the dogs tongue as possible. And the animal should never get hurt from taking medicine.
